Reflection
Last year, my dad went to the hospital after experiencing pain in his lower abdomen. He ended up having emergency surgery to remove a ruptured appendix. After he returned home from the hospital, his doctor told him they had discovered cancer in the appendix and recommended chemotherapy to eliminate any remaining cancer cells in his body. Praise God that the chemo worked and he is cancer free today.
I wanna live like Lucy died
Living my life wire to wire
Burn up like a star in the northern sky
Dreaming only of the light
This song by Mt. Joy was released during that time, and it resonated deeply with me. I was thinking a lot about the fragility of life and how I should be spending my limited time on Earth. There are times when I seem to go on autopilot; I do the same things most days, and life can become monotonous. When I’m confronted with my Dad having cancer or hearing Lucy’s story as to how she lived her last days, it is a slap in my face to live life with intention and to do things that bring me true joy and fulfillment.
When my Dad was going through his chemo treatments, I knew regardless of the outcome, we will see each other in heaven. Fortunately, we have been granted more time together. While it is unlikely we will be jumping out of a plane together due to our shared fear of heights, there are many other things that we can to do live life to the fullest. I want to be like Lucy and seize the day, because we never know how many days we have left.

Lyrics
I wanna live like Lucy died
Living my life wire to wire
Burn up like a star in the northern sky
Dreaming only of the light
Dust to dust, what becomes of us?
And will I ever be man enough
To be the woman that she was in life
When she knew she was gonna die?
And Lucy won’t fight, she knows she’s right
She says she wanted one more jam with us tonight
And I’ll tell you everything I ever learned about life
Is that Lucy’s a bad***, and Lucy’s right, hey
Lucy jumped out of an aeroplane
And Lucy got drunk on cheap champagne
I hope she still feels everything
All of the love that still remains
Dust to dust, what becomes of us?
And how do we ever get back up?
Well, I’ll see you at the end of time
Go solve the mystery of humankind
And Lucy won’t fight, she knows she’s right
She says she wanted one more chance with us tonight
And I’ll tell you everything I ever learned about life
Is that Lucy’s a bad***, and Lucy’s right, uh
Leaning on that red jukebox, and the music’s on fire
Lucy’s gonna take this wire to wire
Now I’m dancing with an angel
And I’m crying, it’s painful
‘Cause the dream that she’s made for
Will live on forever
Oh, Lucy won’t fight, she knows she’s right
She says she wanted one more jam with us tonight
And I’ll tell you everything I ever learned about life
Is that Lucy’s a bad***, and Lucy’s ****** right, uh-huh
